Renovation of the first luxury hotel built in the Dominican Republic, the landmark Santo Domingo property long used by visiting heads of state and the one that appears in the Godfather trilogy.
Grupo Barceló appointed TLDI for construction management of a full renovation that preserved its architectural character and repositioned it as the group's first Royal Hideaway. The hotel stayed open at 50% occupancy throughout the works and reopened in September 2017.
Scope of works
- Full interior strip-out and renovation of 298 guest rooms and the public areas
- Two new club levels for VIP guests and an additional level built for a presidential suite
- Conversion of the casino into 850 m² of conference space and new staff offices, with a new preparation kitchen
- Delivered while the hotel stayed open at 50% occupancy
